After a career spanning 25 years on the mines, from apprenticeship to a supervisory capacity, mainly involved in all types of pumping applications, from underground, surface, high pressure cleaning pumps, fridge plant, involvement in designing and equipping of pump stations, including sewerage, storm water, waste systems, I went into a Manufacturing environment.

After 5 years in the Plastic Industry, where I was dealing with hydraulics, injection and blowmoulding, I decided the time had come to break away and do something for myself.

I established Berks Engineering, Pumps and Rewinds as a sole Proprietorship in 2002 and changed to a CC in 2007. Initially I worked from a friend's workshop and as the business grew I was able to purchase the current property at 145 Station Road, Brakpan. This consisted of a house with a double garage at the rear that served as my workshop. Much of the work was carried out, outside in the grounds.

In 2005 I had the current workshop built around the double garage, which now serves mainly as the tool store. The workshop now covers an area of approx. 300sq.m., and is split into a machine shop, with a 3m lathe and milling machine, and the main area for stripping and assembling. The house on property is utilised as offices.

The company premises are completely closed off with palisade fencing, and an electric gate. This ensures the safety of workers, and visiting customers as far as it is possible to do so. We have linked up to a security company, by both alarm system when closed, and panic button.

As mentioned, much of my business is done within the poultry industry, which requires that we have 24 hours availability for service back up.
